About the Regional Observatory of Adaptation

The Regional Observatory of Adaptation (ROA) is an information system designed to collect, analyze, monitor, evaluate and generate collective reflection on the progress and obstacles faced by countries, societies and communities of Latin America and the Caribbean towards compliance with the Global Goal on Adaptation

Mission

The mission of the ROA is to generate/collect strategic indicators, analytical tools and knowledge on progress on adaptation in the Latin American and Caribbean region. In this way, the ROA aims to support the decision-making of governments, international organizations, civil society, academia, and the private sector that promote action for adaptation.

Vision

By 2025, the ROA will be established as a strategic tool for the acceleration of adaptation processes to climate change in the LAC region. The information and knowledge necessary for decision-making will be available publicly and transparently. Likewise, the ROA will be consolidated as a key tool in the definition and implementation of the Global Adaptation Goal framework.

Objectives

The main objective of the ROA is to facilitate decision-making aimed at advancing climate change adaptation processes in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Systematize and analyze relevant information to observe progress in adaptation in the region.

Map indicators covering key aspects for observing progress in adaptation, including thematic dimensions such as water resources, agriculture, and health, among others, as well as aspects related to the adaptation policy cycle: risk assessments,  planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), and adaptation financing.

Communicate effectively and promote dialogue on information related to gaps, progress, and action-taking in adaptation in the region.
